Description
The tulip flower originated in Persia, around the tenth century.
It is thought that the flower got is name because its shape resembled that of a turban.
It wasn't until the sixteenth century, when Western diplomates, visiting the Ottoman court, observed the flowers and reported on them.Tulips were rapidly introduced to Europe and became a sensation, causing tulip mania.
The Netherlands became the major producer for world markets, although tulips are now grown world wide.
The tulip is part of the lily family, are spring blooming perennial herbaceous bulbiferous geophytes.
They die back after blooming to their underground dormant storage bulb.
The flowers are usually large, showy, and brightly colored.
Folklore has it a a flower of love.
