Description
This young heritage chicken is resting in her grazing field.
Her eggs will be sold on her Conneticutt farm.
Heritage chickens are slow growers and prolific egg layers, as well as producing delicious meat.
Descendants of the Red jungle fowl of southwestern Asia, these chickens began to decrease rapidly in the 1950s, as breeders learned to genetically modify the birds to produce more meat more quickly.
The original, beautiful breeds of chickens, are now being raised by concerned farmers, not just to save the breeds, but also for the quality of their meat and eggs. They are organically raised, free range, eating their natural food source found in the land, and live longer healthier lives.
