Description
Ginger is an Orpington hen. She is calm, until food is served, then she hikes up her skirt and means business.
Her heirs are from Orpington, in the county of Kent, England.
Developed and breed by a Mr William Cook, a coachman living in the town of Orpington, in 1886, The Orpinton became popular for the attributes of being both meat birds as well as egg layers.
Fortunately for Ginger, she lives in the good company of high brow egg layers and has a cushy life on a farm in New Hampshire.
I have had the privilege of getting to know Ginger while I have been chicken sitting for " the girls".
