Among the myriad of unusual specimen plants at Chanticleer Gardens, Wayne PA, is this striking succulent plant Aeonium Zwartkop , Black Rose.
The flower like leaf arrangement is actually a large rosette of deep burgundy leaves which turn black as they grow and can reach six to eight inches across. The plant may reach three feet tall and has striking bright golden racemes of small star shaped flowers in the spring.
It is a winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
