Description
A Victorian garden is housed inside walls of ivy, in a brick courtyard.
Four ornately made cement chairs and a table are placed in a corner of the garden, used for afternoon tea gatherings.
The Ladew Topiary Gardens began in November 1929, when Harvey S Ladew purchased 200 acres of farm land in Maryland. An avid gardner and eccentric, he renovated the old farm house, added buildings and cultivated land for crops and livestock.
Out of his estate, he took 22 acres and began his life's project of building gardens which became world famous for his magnificent topiaries.
Roaming the preserved estate now, are beautiful nature walks, and intimate garden rooms, like the Victorian Garden, to explore and appreciate.

I love images of chairs and benches. Ever since I had read a book about Van Gogh, many, many years ago, and understood a different way of seeing them. Now they just make me wonder who sat there, what did they talk about. Thank you for sharing! :-) Maggie

I like the mood and the old-time feel of this image, Alida! Nice lighting and composition.

Wonderful capture! I bet the guests might have some trouble moving the chairs around and would get poked in the back by the ornamentation. Not practical, but beautiful to see.
Alida M Haslett replied:
You got that right! I couldn't budge the chairs- but admired the intricate ornamentation--- cold seat for warm tea!
