When an old New Hampshire farm was cleared for renewal, many objects were found the overgrown land..
These early 1900s cast iron wagon wheels were discovered and saved, now resting by an original stone wall.
Rusted and showing a bit of lichen growth on their axel, the wheels are now seen and appreciated.
Our age is more comfortable with rubber tires, smooth rides and fancy hubcaps, but the purity of design , the raw elements of cast iron and earth, of man his close connectedness with his purposeful survival, are symbolic of progress hard won.
I prefer the minimalist and purist elements of the old wheels-- the reminder of discomfort and beauty, of sweat and sleep. Of hunger and satisfaction.
I am glad these wheels were found and are here to suggest story of turning round and round for someone.
