Description
New Orleans is a city with rich history and culture. American jazz has its home in NOLA. Many beautiful styles of architecture and abundant gardens adorn sections of the city.
There is another side however.
Close to the French Quarter, poverty, crime, decay, define many homes and buildings.
The poverty rate in the city of new Orleans has dropped from 19 percent to 14 percent since the hurricane Katrina. Notably, because so many homes were destroyed, there are fewer homes counted, and the city has begun to rebuild low income housing which is offered to a more diverse economical population
The poorest of the city are also spreading beyond the city limits.
Second to Mississippi, Louisiana is tied as the poorest state in the USA, and that statistic is a result of the largest percentage being in New Orleans.
Here, empty windows and empty rooms show neglect and reflect despair. Falling debris is the only sign of activity coming from these walls.
And around the corner, some of the greatest jazz musicians in the country pour their hearts and souls into their music which tells their story.
