Description
This summer cottage was built in 1912 for Adolph G Rosengarten, Sr and his wife Christine Penrose. Mr Rosengarten was the head of Rosengarten and Sons, a Philadelphia pharmaceutical manufacturer which had been founded in 1822 by his family.
The company ultimately merged with Merck and Co, in 1927.
After inheriting the estate, Adolph G Rosengarten, Jr, established a foundation to protect "Chanticleer" and maintain it as a public garden.
Within this suburban treasure, set in Wayne, Pennsylvania, are forty acres of woods, gardens, ponds, stream and countless ornamental plants and trees.
From spring through autumn, each day wondering the campus, new and surprising visions reveal themselves as light, color, and shadows are continually changing due to the sun, clouds and weather.
This is a magical gem.
