Description
Bottles, colors, glass, beauty, architecture, The Mayhaw resides inside St Roch Market on St Claude Ave, New Orleans.
Originally, this was a city market constructed in 1838, in the New Marigny neighborhood.
After the yellow fever epidemic of 1870s, the street and neighborhood were renamed St Roch, after the patron saint of incurable diseases and lost causes.
The market had many swings of success and disaster, and after several remodeling efforts and finally major renovations in the after math of Katrina, state and federal funding restored the building and it was leased to private business who returned it to a multi- tenant food hall. The heavy grand woodwork and columns grace the large scale interior.
The bottles lined up in the windows of the Mayhaw Bar create a light show in the market of many colors.
